Coach Lane McCarter

Coach Lane McCarter

Lane McCarter has been at Houston High School since the spring of 1998.  He was the head JV coach during the '98 and '99 seasons.  McCarter took over the very successful Houston High School baseball program in the fall of '99.  Since the spring of 2000, the program has carried that momentum into 4 state tournament appearances and one state title.  The 2005 state championship was the school's second state title.  The program has been recognized nationally by Baseball America in addition to 7 players being drafted professionally.  Since Coach McCarter took over, 50 players have received baseball scholarships.

Coach McCarter's wife Kim is a registered dietician and owns a dance studio (Studio 413) in Collierville, TN.  Lane and his wife have twins, Maddy Mac and Addy Pearl, who were born May 2, 2007.

The Houston High School baseball program is a part of Coach McCarter and always will be.  The greatest joy in the job for him is seeing young people continue to feel a part of the program well after they graduate.  With the tremendous support of the Houston High School administration and the Bullpen Club, this "Program of Excellence" is second to none in the country.

Coach Collins Day

Coach Collins Day

Coach Day graduated from Germantown High School in 1992.  He was all-state in football as a running back and free safety.  The Red Devils made the state championship game in both football and baseball during Coach Day's senior year.  Coach Day then signed a baseball scholarship with the University of Memphis.  He was a 3rd team All-American in 1994 after leading the nation in winning percentage at 12-0.  He also hit .307 with 7 home runs.  That Memphis team finished 52-11 and came within one win of the College World Series.

Coach Day came to Houston in 2000 to help his college teammate, Coach McCarter, lead the Mustang program.  Coach Day is the Varsity 3rd base coach and coaches the pitchers and hitters.  He has a strong passion for studying pitching and hitting and is very resourceful while being able to continue learning from his former players like big leaguers Matt Cain and Brent Dlugach.

Coach Day met his wife Kelly when she was a pom-pon girl at the University of Memphis.  She currently works as a Solutions Consultant for Ricoh Business Solutions.  They have 2 sons.  Chandler is 6 and Canon is 2.

Coach Day lives in Germantown and teaches at Oak Elementary in Bartlett.  He has a strong passion for baseball and coaching, but his biggest strength is his love for the kids.  "The success of this program starts from the outstanding administration at HHS.  In addition, because of our distinguished Bullpen Club, the coaches are able to focus on developing players in life both on and off the field.  Bill Avant has also made our field the number one place to play in the state.  It's because of all of this support that over half of Houston's graduating seniors since the class of 2000 have gone on to sign college scholarships.  This is a big reason why players love to play at Houston.  They realize we are truly doing this because we have fun.  That's the only way to play the game!"
