Coach Jay Joyner
Coach Joyner begins his tenth year at his high school alma mater and his ninth as
junior varsity head coach. He has led the Mustangs to six consecutive 20
plus win seasons, including a 26-9 record in 2004. The JV Mustangs have
won 167 games in his eight years as head coach. Jay also teamed with Coach
McCarter in 1999 to lead the team to the JV Regional Championship.
Joyner is a member of Houston High School's first graduating class (1993) and
lettered in both baseball and basketball. He earned the 1991 Mustangs'
Offensive Player of the Year award in baseball. The '93 Mustangs are
the only Houston team in the school's history to win the prestigious USA
Classic.
Jay received a BA in Business Management from the University of Alabama in 1997 and
is currently employed as a Corporate Accountant with Poag & McEwen Lifestyle
Centers.
He and his wife, Crystal, live in Collierville and were married on January 13,
2001. She is a 1998 graduate of the University of Mississippi and earned
double majors in Accounting and Finance. She is a Financial Analyst with
ServiceMaster. They have 2 future ball playing little boy...Matthew, 2 and
Logan, 1.
One thing Jay really enjoys about coaching JV is watching players mature both on and
off the field as they progress through high school. Seeing them enter the
program as kids and leave as men is something very unique to coaching at the JV
level. He is also proud to have coached numerous scholarship players as
well as professional draft picks early in their high school careers.
